NONVIOLENT ACTIVIST: The Magazine of the War Resisters League

WRL Peace Award

More than 100 people enjoyed the WRL Annual Dinner June 7 at the Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City. The wonderful dinner, prepared by Pacifeast Caterers Joanne Sheehan and Rick Gaumer, WRL's New England staff, also provided the occasion of the 33rd WRL Peace Award, given this year to Judith Malina and the Living Theater and in loving memory of Living Theater co-founder Julian Beck. Malina, who was unable to be at the dinner due to a previous performing engagement in Europe, pre-recorded her accepance speech on video (below).
PHOTO WITH CAPTION: The ... strength of the War Resisters

League pledge [is] that I, personally, am reversing the cycle of violence by refusing to continue it, that I draw the line at myself, that I say, "No more war,

and I stand here to say it," "No more killing, and I place myself, I'm standing on the ground that says, 'No more war.'" That's the ground of the

War Resisters League, and the Living Theater is honored and pleased and so much inspired to be standing on the War Resister League's sacred

ground.
