Statement from RAMALC Regarding US Military Action Against Venezuela

From the Latin American and Caribbean Antimilitarist Network (RAMALC), in light of the current situation in Venezuela, we reject the bombing of Venezuelan territory by the United States, which has also affected the civilian population.

Isn’t a bombing the first step in a strategy that seeks to invade, extract the resources they want, and establish military bases?

This was recently stated by the President of the United States.

We condemn this US military action, just as we have condemned every human rights violation by the Nicolás Maduro government. We reject violence and oppression, wherever they come from. We warn that this spiral of authoritarianism threatens Venezuelan sovereignty and the stability of the entire region; it is the continuation of a long history of military interventions by that state, always driven by geostrategic interests.

We have also rejected the dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro, denounced by those who maintain an anti-militarist struggle for Venezuela, but our anti-dictatorial struggle does not justify imperial invasion in Latin American territories.

No bombing is justified. Wars only deepen poverty and exacerbate existing violence.

If this aggression does not receive widespread international condemnation and this behavior is not stopped, then there will no longer be any international order except the law of the strongest.

How to build an anti-militarist, anti-imperialist movement that stands in solidarity with those who suffer and those who yearn for change in Venezuela?  

Our response is to call upon the solidarity of the Latin American peoples to put the care of life at the center of international geopolitics, to prioritize the dignity of peoples and communities beyond any multilateral agenda.

We condemn the US military action and any attempt at invasion. Above all, we stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan people, both within and beyond their borders.
