December of Dissent: A Message from Bogota

Hi All,

I’m Natalia, and I’m the Right to Refuse to Kill Programme worker at War Resisters’ International (WRI) based in Colombia. Last July, WRI organized the International Conference “Antimilitarismos en Movimiento” along with other grassroots antimilitarist organizations in Colombia. We were so lucky to have War Resisters League’s participation in the conference and to learn more about the amazing work they are doing, from nonviolence training, to campaigns against police militarization, to producing counter recruitment resources.

I'm writing today because 126 people have helped WRL raise $6,192 towards WRL's goal of $30,000 this December and the next $4,000 we raise is being matched! Can you donate today to double the impact of your gift?

As a feminist in Latin America, it makes me so happy to know WRL approaches antimilitarism and nonviolence from a gender, feminist, and LGBTQ perspective and to see how they facilitate  spaces where other voices can be heard… If you ask me, many social movements are lacking this type of approach to their struggles, so it’s good news that WRL is doing this work in the U.S.

When WRL funds international travel for activists to attend gatherings like the WRI conference we're able to learn from each other and build truly internationalist networks of solidarity. Can you give $15, $25, $100, or more to support today?

After the Conference, the InterReligious Task Force on Central America and WRL invited me as WRI staff member to do a speaking tour in the U.S. where I shared many things in relation to the Colombian context, antimilitarist and feminist movements in Colombia, and some reflections on patriarchy and war. I couldn’t be more grateful for this and this is just a small example of what I mentioned before -- WRL's commitment to centering the struggles and voices of feminists around the world. I really look forward to continuing to work closely with WRL as we carry on all the work that's still needed to live in a world without war.

If you are thinking of donating to a good cause this year, I would encourage you to do it to War Resisters League, so they can keep doing the wonderful work they already do.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a small contribution, believe me, for groups like WRI and WRL, your support has a HUGE impact. Can you give today?

Thank you for supporting nonviolent resistance to militarism!

Con todo el cariño feminista y antimilitarista,

Natalia García Cortés
