As “Muslim” women living amidst a global war being waged by the United States and its attendant “fundamentalists” planted across various desserts, we are constantly negotiating our lives on a day-to-day basis. With the ongoing curtailment of civil liberties here at ‘home’, the constant obsession of the media with our bodies, and the West’s military apparatuses’ arduous mission to “save us from Islamic barbaric patriarchy”, how are we constructing our varied “selves”? The continued (indefinite) arrests, deportations and the ongoing war in Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan “Muslim” communities and our families are in continuous states of re-configuration. As the current State sanctioned violence gives order to the day, how is violence being maintained and justified in all sectors of our lived experience? What are the ways in which globalized violence impacts our lives locally and how are we resisting?
