Over a year since her homegoing and in the month of her 64th birthday, Linda Thurston was remembered by her family and community at War Resisters League and Critical Resistance at a celebration of her life and legacy held at Judson Memorial Church in New York City. It was a deeply moving event, bringing together over eighty people, and dozens more for the virtual streaming. You can view the event recording here.
In addition to Linda’s legacy as an abolitionist organizer and visionary, we remember her as a dedicated movement archivist. At the celebration, Linda’s cousin Kristine Keeling announced the establishment of the Linda Thurston Archival Internship. This internship will enable WRL and other organizations to preserve their history for future generations, drawing upon lessons from the past. The internship will provide paid opportunities for those working in and interested in movement history.
We hope you will join us in honoring Linda’s legacy. All contributions will go towards the Linda Thurston Archival Internship. We hope to hire the first Linda Thurston Archival Intern in January 2023. Click the link below to make a donation
In addition to launching the Linda Thurston Archival Internship, this Fall WRL has hired a Freeman Intern to work with the Swarthmore College Peace Collection to improve access to WRL materials.
